Repotting

When and how to give plants a new home

Repotting at the right time with the right technique keeps roots healthy and gives plants room to grow.

Repot when you see roots circling the bottom of the pot, growing out of drainage holes, or pushing the plant upward. Other signs: water runs straight through without being absorbed, the plant is top-heavy and tips over, or growth has stalled despite good care. Most plants benefit from repotting every 1–2 years in spring.
